PRINCE2 2009 - Directing Projects with PRINCE2 part 48

Authorize a Stage or Exception Plan

Suggested Project Board agenda

A generic agenda for Project Board reviews was introduced in ‘Progress control’ under ‘Ensure effective decision making’ within the section covering ‘Project Board duties and behaviours’.
The specific implementation suggested for authorizing a Stage or Exception Plan is outlined below.

Suggested Project Board agenda for authorizing a Stage or Exception Plan

Look back: Review status in relation to the current Stage Plan (or Exception Plan)
Look forward: Review the next Stage Plan or Exception Plan
Assess overall project viability: Consider the current status of the Business Case, Project Plan and issues/risks
Make a decision: Authorize the stage to proceed by approving the next Stage Plan (or Exception Plan), or Request premature closure if the project is no longer viable or desirable
